Within the sacred enclosure of the Temple of Ouidah stands the protection hut, a place reserved for the rites of conjuration performed by the priest, guardian of the tradition.
During the great ceremonies, only the priest has the right to enter, in order to ward off evil spirits. He enters through the first opening and comes back out through the second : he never leaves by the way he came in.
This single detail says much about the rigor of Vodoun : even the most subtle movements and passages are coordinated and organized according to precise rules, handed down from generation to generation.
